The RBMA contracted with the Sausalito Northbay Boatworks to build a wooden, 17 foot rowing and sailing Swampscott Dory to honor the life of RBMA co-founder, Charlie Merrill and his dedication to the Sausalito waterfront community. The Charlie Merrill is the first of a class of dories built in Sausalito for sailing on the bay. The overall cost of the project was $10,000. The RBMA donated $1500 toward the purchase of building materials and the remainder of the money came from community donations.

Once we have established a rowing and sailing program for the Charlie Merrill, it will be available for public rental. This rental income will keep our Charlie Merrill ship shape for years to come. CLICK HERE TO VIEW WORK IN PROGRESS

The following donors have made contributions in excess of $500 and their names have been engraved on a bronze plaque which is attached to the interior of the transom. Thanks to everyone's generous enthusiasm and support! Print RBMA Project Overview (pdf format)
